The slogan of this year's Main Exhibition is Immersed in Images. It draws attention to the richness of the contemporary iconosphere, which is reflected in the works of artists from around the world. They allow the public to immerse themselves in an extraordinary world of sensations and observations, commentaries revealing various aspects of the present, to all transformations and appropriations that make up visual culture. It also refers to the overwhelming power of the image that draws the viewer into an extraordinary world, allowing him/her to experience the new, gets to know a different point of view, looks at reality from a different perspective.
As part of the exhibition, nearly 200 works by artists from all continents will be presented, thanks to which it will be possible to create a great space for intercultural dialogue, which is updated in visual forms and the diversity of aesthetics preferred by artists from all corners of the world.
The exhibition will also pose questions about the borderline of the graphic medium, problematizing the relationship between graphics and sculpture, installation, painting or video art.
International Print Triennial Society in Krakow (Stowarzyszenie Międzynarodowe Triennale Grafiki w Krakowie, SMTG) was established in the year 1992 to continue the organisation of International Print Biennial in Krakow, an event whose history reaches back to the year 1966. The SMTG changed the frequency of the event, transforming at the same time its name to International Print Triennial (SMTG) in Krakow.
At the same time SMTG expanded the organisational formula of the event, developing in other Polish cities a range of regular events that are organised as part of the MTG - Krakow programme. The International Print Triennial (pl. Międzynarodowe Triennale Grafiki, MTG) in 2018 is held according to a new formula. It will still be an open competition, as it is a significant value created in the past decades, but, at the same time, the goal of the new edition of the Triennial is to present the complex nature of the printmaking process in the fullest possible manner to the wide range of viewers.
